French Baguette Basket

An authentic antique bakery proofing basket used for shaping and proofing long French loaves. Hand woven willow with its original aged linen liner, beautifully worn from decades of use.

The linen lining shows darkening from flour and natural yeast accumulation from repeated bakery use. Traditionally, these linen liners were not fully washed between uses, allowing the fibers to wick moisture from the dough while maintaining an ideal proofing surface for artisan breads and crisp crust formation.

Wonderfully sculptural and rustic, this old banneton has all the character collectors and serious bakers seek:
handwoven willow, visible hand stitching, worn linen, frayed edges, and honest evidence of long working life in a bakery setting.

Beautiful displayed in a French country kitchen, farmhouse interior, or bread baking collection.

Condition:
Strong and usable/display worthy antique condition with age and bakery wear throughout. Fraying, losses, darkening, small holes, exposed willow, and wear to the linen liner from long use. The irregularities and wear are part of its authentic character and appeal.
Likely late 19th to early 20th century, considering the irregular handwoven willow (before later standardization).
The coarse heavy weave of linen and hand stitching it to attach are all indications of it's history.
